Con la mudanza a un pueblo patagónico, los conflictos entre Alicia y su madre comienzan a disiparse. 14 year old Emma and her family loose the farm on which they live and thus go to town looking for work. Th only thing they are able to find is work in a mining town. The working conditions are terrible and the pay is poor, but they have no choice and all go to work, even the youngest. With the aid of a friend, Emma finds a job in the city and looks for a way to bring the horrific mining conditions to the public's attention.
