Juan José Millás

Sinopsis del Libro

Libro Juan José Millás

The five novels written by Juan José Millás between 1988 and 1998 (El desorden de tu nombre; La soledad era esto, Volver a casa; Tonto, muerto, bastardo e invisible; and El orden alfabético) display an increasing preoccupation with a limited number of themes, principally identity and social criticism. They also demonstrate the constant reiteration of a specific group of motifs, an increasing use of metafictional devices, and the use of bizarre or mentally disturbed protagonists. Millás presents writing as the compulsive expression of obsessive thought. This book explains Millás's literary signs as corresponding to the clinical symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Using Fredric Jameson's concept of the political unconscious, the obsessive-compulsive aesthetic is found to constitute Millás's individual manifestation or working-through of an anxiety present in the collective unconscious of Spain and provoked by the rapid political, social, economic, and cultural changes experienced during those years.

El primer García Márquez

Libro El primer García Márquez

This study breaks new ground in García Márquez studies by focusing on the author's journalistic writings between 1948 and 1955. By using a combination of modern critical methods, including narratology, dialogism and transtextuality, this study shows how García Márquez' early journalism laid the foundations for his later fiction writing. This work provides an exhaustive, coherent and comprehensive analysis of a neglected area of the Colombian author's writing. This study shows that García Márquez is a bigeneric writer, a journalist-fiction writer, who constantly combines genres in his...

The Poem of Fernán González

Libro The Poem of Fernán González

Fernan Gonzalez lived from about AD 910 to 970. The popular image of him is of a fearsome warrior who gave his people protection from their enemies (both Muslim and Christian), and a wise and respected lord who enabled them to live in security and harmony. He was generally accepted to have played a strategic role in achieving independence for Castile and freeing it from dominance by the kingdom of Leon. The Poema de Fernan Gonzalez was composed (by an unknown author) in the mid-thirteenth century as an enduring celebration of his triumphs and account of his life and deeds. Fact and legend...

VARONES INSIGNES EN LETRAS NATURALES DE LA ILUSTRISIMA CIUDAD DE SEVILLA

Libro VARONES INSIGNES EN LETRAS NATURALES DE LA ILUSTRISIMA CIUDAD DE SEVILLA
