El objetivo fundamental de esta obra es presentar una serie de manuscritos inéditos y un elenco de milagros publicados en textos de difícil acceso, para hacer con ellos un inventario general de sucesos prodigiosos ocurridos en Guadalajara, como aportación a un deseable corpus o censo nacional de milagros. Estos escritos se enmarcan en una corriente nacional de exaltación de la Fe. El siglo XVII español fue un siglo de piedad apasionada y peculiar que chocaba en otros países de la Europa católica e incluso sorprendía en Roma.
