Antonio Literes es una figura esencial dentro de la historia de la música española. Nacido en la localidad mallorquina de Artá, se trasladó a Madrid hacia 1686 para estudiar en el Real Colegio de Niños Cantores, donde aprendió a tocar el violón (=violonchelo) con Manuel de Soba. En 1693 fue nombrado violón de la Real Capilla, puesto que ocupó hasta su muerte en 1747.
