Sinopsis del Libro

Leonardo Rucabado Gómez (Castro Urdiales, Cantabria, 1875-1918), arquitecto e ingeniero, se formó en Barcelona con los maestros del Modernismo, y desarrolló su arquitectura en Vizcaya, Cantabria y Madrid, utilizando una variedad de estilos, que después negará para concluir en el «Regionalismo». Ha sido considerado simplemente como un arquitecto del «regionalismo montañés», limitando su alcance, pero fue un hombre conocedor de la cultura europea y capaz de elaborar y presentar al debate público una propuesta general para la arquitectura española, en paralelo a lo que otros hacían en los distintos países europeos. Los textos que aquí se presentan muestran las bases teóricas de su propuesta y el comentario de su propia obra. Él se consideraba a sí mismo un poeta de la arquitectura, de modo que toda su obra construida tiene en sí misma un componente literario. Pero además aquí se presentan sus narraciones literarias que describen en su localidad natal el paso de una antigua villa pesquera a la moderna ciudad industrial, el fin de un mundo que en el fondo explica sus inquietudes intelectuales y arquitectónicas.

The book is an historic and graphical account of the patios of "vecindad" (neighbourhood) in the port city of Veracruz, in a period that goes from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century. The foreword of this edition, states that the first record of a patio of a "vecindad" dates back to 1791, highlighting that those patios have seen the early years of musician and singer "Toña la Negra" and were the place of origin of the famous "picadas" from Veracruz, one of the most popular snacks of the jarocha traditional cuisine.

Hannes Meyer

Life and work of polemic architect and urbanist Meyer (b. Switzerland), one of the most important functionalists of the 1920's. The former director of the Bauhaus, he worked for the Post-Revolutionary Regimes in Mexico as the director of the Instituto del Urbanismo y Planification from 1942 through 1949, while also becoming the editor of the collective graphic workshop Taller de Grafica Popular (TGP) from 1947 to 1949. Many plates of his architectural designs and the structural diagrams Meyer used for the Bauhaus and in IUP in Mexico.
