La Revista de Bioética y Derecho se creó en 2004 a iniciativa del Observatorio de Bioética y Derecho (OBD), con el soporte del Máster en Bioética y Derecho de la Universidad de Barcelona: www.bioeticayderecho.ub.edu/master. The book is an historic and graphical account of the patios of "vecindad" (neighbourhood) in the port city of Veracruz, in a period that goes from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century. The foreword of this edition, states that the first record of a patio of a "vecindad" dates back to 1791, highlighting that those patios have seen the early years of musician and singer "Toña la Negra" and were the place of origin of the famous "picadas" from Veracruz, one of the most popular snacks of the jarocha traditional cuisine.

The book is the resulting papers from the Seminars of Latin American Architecture (SAL) organized by CEDODAL as an example of academic cooperation between Latin American architects who share their concern for the conservation of the region's architectural patrimony. This edition comprises case studies and historical, economic, social and architectural analysis of the farms and landowners of the haciendas and estancias from 7 countries of Latin America: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, México, Perú and Puerto Rico.
