Esta obra indaga en los orígenes familiares del dramaturgo del Siglo de Oro Felipe Godínez. En ella se trata de la persecución inquisitorial padecida en tierras portuguesas y en Venecia, del traslado a Andalucía y de la inserción socio-económica de unos refugiados religiosos. Otros aspectos centrales son la dispersión y ramificación de la familia en una amplísima geografía por razones comerciales y su ascenso por la escala social hasta el umbral mismo de la hidalguía. Al fondo, siempre presente, la mancha del origen: la sangre cristiana nueva del clan.
