Este libro propone un original acercamiento al estudio de los patrones fonicos del lenguaje. En los cuatro trabajos que incluye, la hipotesis fonologica se entreteje con los finos hilos de la fonetica acustica. Formantes, tonia, frecuencia fundamental, decibeles y demas, constituyen la sustancia fonica en la que se anclan los sistemas fonologicos. El estudio de la dimension acustica de los rasgos distintivos permite asi tender un puente entre la cara material y la cara simbolica de los sonidos, entre la hipotesis fonologica y la forma de los sonidos.
