A finales del XIX, el francés Monet con su cuadro “Soleil levant, Impresión” abre la puerta a un nuevo estilo que va a dominar Europa durante más de medio siglo. En esta primera exposición impresionista (1874) acompañan a Manet otros autores que van a dirigir este estilo, como Renoir o Degas. Esta nueva corriente pictórica pretende reproducir la apariencia meramente transitoria de los objetos destacada por la luz y los reflejos de los cuerpos en el mismo momento en que son contemplados.
