Baldomero Rubio cursó el bachillerato, de siete años entonces, en el Instituto Nacional de Enseñanza Media (INEM) de Baeza (Jaén). En la facultad de matemáticas de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid terminó los estudios de licenciatura en 1961. Continuó como ayudante en esta facultad, simultaneando su trabajo con varios cursos de formación como profesor.
