En 1726 Thomson publica la primera versión de la primera parte de The Seasons: Winter. Se trata de una fecha importante en la historia de la literatura, no sólo inglesa sino mundial; desde ese momento el libro del poeta escocés ejercerá una rica influencia en Europa, sobre todo en Alemania y en Francia. El presente trabajo es la primera traducción en verso de Winter, el poema más representativo del autor escocés James Thomson.
